Career story
My research into education is closely driven by my interests as a practitioner, someone looking to drive enhancements for students and teachers within a university. This, after all, is a key reason why many people embark on a career in research in education - because they want to make a difference. During my career as a university educator, I have primarily taken on development roles, and I used my various roles as a springboard for research. For instance, my most recent research paper, Teacher agency and generative artificial intelligence (see link below), stemmed from work within SEED to help colleagues find ways forward with the student use of AI. I typically find ideas for projects that are connected to issues or challenges that are faced within my practice to lead educational enhancements. Education is an applied discipline.
